Experienced Spinal Cord Injuries
Every year in Ontario numerous people suffer spinal cord injuries ("SCI"). Spinal cord injuries involve an injury to the spinal cord that results in a loss of mobility or function. These injuries can either be a complete injury, where a person has no feeling, function or sensation below the level of the injury, or the injury can be an incomplete injury. An incomplete injury usually features some compression of or injury to the spinal cord and results in one or more of a loss of bowel and bladder control, problems sensing heat or cold, a pins and needles sensation in the arms or legs or a loss of function in the torso, hands, feet, arms or legs.
At Oatley, Vigmond we have years of experience acting for people who have suffered spinal cord injuries. Oatley, Vigmond, along with McLeish Orlando, has committed a total of $1 million to be invested in Toronto Rehabilitation Institute's Lyndhurst and University sites. Lyndhurst is the only rehabilitation centre in Canada that deals solely with spinal cord injuries. Oatley, Vigmond also sponsored a 2010 conference "From Hospital to Home: The Continuum of Care after SCI" put on by the Canadian Paraplegic Association for nurses, allied health care professionals, patients and their families. Jim Vigmond is a lead sponsor of the Peer Support Program of the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
People with SCI often require a high level of care for the rest of their life. Our role as personal injury lawyers is to attempt to recover adequate compensation for these injuries. Compensation may include damages for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life as well as home and vehicle modifications, future care costs and other economic losses.
At Oatley, Vigmond we specialize in spinal cord injury claims. If you or a loved one has suffered a spinal cord injury, please contact us to arrange a meeting with one of our experienced spinal cord injury lawyers.
